- Course objectives
- The first part of the course introduces concepts and approaches to governance from the historical, theoretical as well as comparative perspective. It summarizes and discusses approaches of various theories of the state and public power structures as well as related systems of governance.The course also includes the topic on governance within international / supranational context.
The second part of the course focuses on public policy models and processes. It introduces and discusses the principles and complexity of public policy-making in the context of modern state. Special attention is given to political marketing, policy-making and implementation in networks. The last part of the course focuses on development and current trends of public policy in the Czech Republic.
By passing the course, students are expected to:
• have comprehensive knowledge of public administration and public policies and their complexity and multidisciplinarity, including the international and supra-national aspects
• be able to apply the knowledge in critical discussions about concrete problems of public administration and policy
• improve their communication and teamwork skills which are necessary for professional public administration scholars - Syllabus

- Teaching methods
- The course takes place in 3 tutorials, which are divided into lectures and seminars and serve as a framework for self-studying of students. In order to pass the subject, students are required to:
1. elaborate a seminar essay (20 %)
2. pass the test focusing on their knowledge (50 %)
3. participate in the debate competition of teams (30 %)
The form of course completion links continual self-preparation of students and their competence to debate. The aim is to improve student’s skills to search for and study relevant information, to convincingly argument their opinions and to work in teams.
Requirements (including the literature) are further specified in the interactive scheme and the downloadable studying plan before the semester starts. - Assessment methods
