Course objectives
The aim of lecture is to introduce environmental information and their specification in the context of freedom access to environmental information in the Czech Republic and the world. Definition of environmental information system (IS) will be present including metadata and metainformation system.
The main principles of the development of environmental IS in the state administrative of the Czech republic and in municipal government will be introduced including standards of ICT in the State and municipal IS, structure and hierarchy IS in the state administrative of environmental protection.
Detail structures and functions of environmental IS for measurement and monitoring in waste, water and air protection management will be presented and also their horizontal and vertical data flows.
Environmental IS used by the Ministry of Environment Protection and its institutes (Czech hydrometrological institute, Water research institute, Czech ecological institute, etc.)will be discussed including examples of these IS (HEIS - HydroEcological IS, ISW - Waste IS, etc.).
Annual project of analysis and design of simple Internet environmental IS must be developed.

  • Environmental information and their specification.
  • Freedom access to environmental information in the Czech Republic and the world.
  • Definition of information system (IS)and its specification in environment protection. Metadata and metainformation system.
  • The main principles of the development of environmental IS in the state administrative of the Czech republic and in municipal government. Standards of IS/IT in the State and municipal IS, structure and hierarchy IS in the state administrative of environmental protection. The role of the Czech legislation in IS and its harmonisation with European Union, OECD and UN ones (international standards in environmental statistics).
  • Database structures and functions of environmental IS for measurement and monitoring in waste, water and air protection management and their horizontal and vertical data flows. Special IT and the methodology of development environmental IS and the role of GIS.
  • Environmental IS used by the Ministry of Environment Protection and their maintenance by direct controlled central institutes (Czech hydrometrological institute, Water research institute, Czech ecological institute, etc.).
  • Examples of these IS (HEIS - HydroEcological IS, ISW - Waste IS, etc.).
  • Annual project of analysis and design of Internet environmental IS.
