Syllabus

The course is aimed at mastering of efficient Internet usage.
Internet - its history, basic notions and principles.
Overview and classification of Internet services. Client-server model. Netiquette. Net usage rules.
Basic user Unix commands. Editors vi and pico.
Computer mediated communication - off-line: E-mail (unix E-mail klient elm). Mailing lists (LISTSERV). Usenet news (reader nn). On-line communication services.
Resource sharing: Remote login (telnet). File transfer (ftp, archie, Nosey-Parker, file encoding/decoding). Gopher and Veronica. WAIS. Library services (OPAC, CCL retrieval language, Z39.50 protokol).
World Wide Web (basic notions, URL, netscape). HTML language. WWW search engines.
