  • Computer networks. Basic concepts, different sorts (LAN, WAN, Client - Server, Peer-to-Peer, ...).
  • Operating systems, their support for computer networks and network protocols.
  • Network topologies and their properties.
  • The OSI Model.
  • Ethernet, Arcnet, Token-Ring networks.
  • Communication principles in the Ethernet networks - CSMA/CD.
  • Transfer media (thin and thick coax-cable, twisted-pair, fibre optic) in Ethernet networks
  • Local area networks based on Novell NetWare, Windows NT, Windows 9x operating systems. Basic principles of administration, configuration and handling.
  • The Internet. The TCP/IP protocol family. IP address.
  • Types of TCP/IP networks.
  • Operating system UNIX basic commands.
  • Review and classification of the Internet services.
  • Telnet service.
  • FTP service. Searching in FTP (Parker, Archie).
  • Electronic mail. Sending of non-text messages.
  • Netfind, Gopher, Veronica, Usenet News services.
  • World Wide Web. Searching in the WWW environment (Altavista, Yahoo, Infoseek, Seznam, ...)
  • Introduction to HTML (possibilities of Java-Script and Java-Applet extension).
