Course objectives
The aims of the subject are: - to improve understanding of modern ethics and its relations to sport, in the context of important philosophical discourses - to examine metamorphoses of ethic discourses from the antiquity till contemporary period (form Platon to the Olympic Charter and WADA) - to approach the thinking of contemporary ainstream sciences which deal with the topic of morality in sport (evolution biology, game theory, genetics etc.)

  • Short history of ethics (Kant, Hume, Nietzsche)
  • Purpose of movement(Bednář - homo movens, homo viator, homo spiritualis)
  • Postmodernism and ethics (Bělohradský)
  • Olympism and ethics, crisis of contemporary sport
  • Fair-play and contemporary sport (Kosiewicz, Parry)
  • Sport (body culture, movement culture)
  • Rehabilitation of epikureism. Hédonism and utilitarism (Diogenes, Singer, Mill)
  • Evolutionary-biological foundation of morality, biological reductionism. Egoism, sexuality, aggression.
  • Doping, adoration of achievement, passive attitude towards movement.
  • New virtues: ecologism, feminism, animal rights.
  • Existencial ethics. Athlete - coach relationship.
