Course objectives
After the course graduate student is able to:
- understand historical backround of Japanese fencing and its influence on nowadays combative sports
- describe origins of a Japanese sword
- describe parts of Japanese sword
- describe parts of defensive weaponry
- repeat different teachings of Japanese fencing
- describe parts of Japanese armour
- list various schools of Japanese fencing
- list medieval Japanese weapons and desribe their parts
- distinguish correct fighting distance (ma ai)
- practise diverse sets of movements (kata)
- experiment with fighting techniques
- practise with an partner safely
- use correct terminology of Japanese fencing
- understand significance of practising Japanese fencing as a martial art
