- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to obtain basic information about the human digestive system, individual components of nutrition and its digestion, absorption and other metabolism.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course students will be able to:
- Describe basic biochemical processes in the human body;
- explain basic physiological principles of gastrointestinal tract function;
- describe the process of digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals and vitamins and water and following metabolic processes taking into account the role of physical activity;
- Understand the basics of regulation of metabolic processes (the role and functions of key enzymes and hormones). - Syllabus
- Syllabus of teaching
- - biologically important organic (carbohydrates, fats, proteins) and inorganic substances and their importance (water, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, hormones);
- Anatomical description of the human digestive tract; - basic types of biochemical reactions;
- - enzymes, structure, mechanism of action, enzyme distribution;
- - carbohydrates, proteins and fats(basic meaning and distribution);
- - principles of regulation of metabolism, catabolic and anabolic reactions in various states (postprandial, postabsorptive and catabolic period, physical exercise);
- - carbohydrate metabolism, glycolysis, anaerobic and aerobic conditions, glycogenolysis, pentose cycle, gluconeogenesis;
- - metabolism of proteins and amino acids, transamination, deamination, proteosynthesis, urea cycle, ketones;
- - metabolism of lipids, beta-oxidation of fatty acids, lipoproteins (categorization, origin, meaning);
- - citrate cycle, respiratory chain, oxidative phosphorylation;
- - hormones, hormone distribution, site of occurrence, mechanism of action, regulatory importance;
- - basics of biochemistry muscle contraction, muscle fiber, muscle proteins, muscle contraction, muscle energy activity.
