Course objectives
The aim of the course is to apply and modify aquired knowledge of basic principles of nutrition to the variable sports preparation and competition in an effort to support training adaptation, regeneration and sport performance.
Learning outcomes
After completeing the course student will be able to:
- characterize the specifics of sports nutrition and to distinguish the nutrient needs from non-sports nutrition;
- orientate and correctly interpret the latest nutritional recommendations for athletes in support of regeneration, adaptation and sports performance;
- apply the basic knowledge of nutrition to the environment of various sports disciplines;
- assess and correctly set the nutritional needs of athletes of various ages and the varying intensity of the training process;
- analyze the athlete's nutritional status;
- Work with nutritional software to program individual nutritional needs of athletes;
- Apply specific nutritional strategies optimizing sports performance;
- Identify health risks resulting from the variability of the training process and can recommend appropriate nutritional measures;
- individualize the athlete's diet plan with respect to the specific needs arising from the annual training cycle phase;
- recommend the use of dietary supplements and sports foods to optimize sports training.
Syllabus
  • Syllabus: 1. Energy balance and basic needs of macro-nutrients and micronutrients in athlete's nutrition (importance, digestive and absorption physiology, nutrient metabolism at work, nutritional aspects of exercise physiology);
  • 2. The athlete's nutritional status assesment (athletic nutrition, training and nutrition history, anthropometric measurements related to nutritional status, body composition, energy and nutrient needs analysis, energy availability);
  • 3. Sport nutrition before, during and after exercise (specifics and differences of training and rational nutrition, specifics of sports nutrition of endurance and strength disciplines, collective sports and coordination aesthetic sports;
  • 4. Hydration in sport - Fluid intake strategies, dehydration, rehydration, hyponatremia;
  • 5. Specific strategies for sports nutrition (manipulation with the carbohydrate intake and other macronutrients in sports training);
  • 6. Dietary supplements in sports (categorization, legislation, practical use in sports - ergogenic food supplements, regeneration and health-preventive role of the dietary supplements);
  • 7. Health aspects of sports nutrition (risks of nutritional deficiencies - role of energy, macro nutrition and micronutrients, alternative nutrition, nutrition of diabetics, seniors, food intolerance, nutrition in convalescence, GIT problems);
  • 8. Specifics of sports nutrition of youth, seniors, female athletic triad;
  • Seminars: - monitoring, control, evaluation and programming of the athlete's nutrition in relation to the specifics of sport preparation (RTC phase, plant preparation, specific nutritional objectives, etc., monitoring of anthropometric indicators (caliper, body composition, energy expenditure calculation);
  • - working with nutrition software, collecting, analyzing and evaluating the diets.

- final written test of 20 questions (combination of open and test questions), min. 75% success rate (possibility of a corrective test)
