Course objectives
The course is designed to provide students with knowledge of various sports disciplines and related topics while developing their reading comprehension, and oral and written skills in English. By the end of the course, students are expected to have reached the B2 level of the CEFR.
Learning outcomes
Graduates of this course will acquire basic command of professional terminology in sport science, health, anatomy and various sport disciplines. In addition, students will gain better command of professionally relevant grammatical phenomena, where the improvement of mainly reproductive communication skills (proper pronunciation, correct spelling, apt use of stylistic registers in written communication and acquisition of basic lexical knowledge) will be emphasized and their eventual mastery expected.
Syllabus
  • 1st block: My field of study, occupation. Winter sports - ice hockey, skiing, figure skating, snowboarding. Stadium team games - football. Grammar: use of articles, countable and uncountable nouns. Writing emails. 2nd block: Court games - volleyball, basketball, tennis. Water sports - swimming. Athletics. Conditional clauses, passive voice. 3rd block: Gymnastics, Adventure sports - combat sports, boxing. Fitness, anatomy. Relative clauses. Revision.

Teaching methods
Language seminar: speaking,reading, listening, writing, presenting
Assessment methods
The course is taught in the form of seminars. Students will find topics for each week in the interactive syllabus section ("interaktivní osnova"), and prepare them for the following classes. After a proper registration, class-attendance becomes compulsory, 1 missed attendance is accepted.

The exam at the end of the course comprises testing all language skills: speaking, reading, wiriting, listening. the exam can be recognized on the basis of FCE, the corresponding examination from another university or on the basis of an internationally recognized certificate
