- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to introduce the principles of sports nutrition in the context of the specifics of the implemented sports sector in an effort to support training adaptation, regeneration and sport performance.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course student will be able to:
- characterize the specifics of sports nutrition;
- to be aware of current valid nutritional recommendations for athletes in support of regeneration and sports performance;
- can apply the basic knowledge of nutrition to the environment of various sports disciplines;
- to assess and correct the nutritional needs of athletes resulting from the demandingness of the training process;
- Search and synthesize information about sports nutrition in recent professional literature;
- Apply specific nutritional strategies optimizing sports performance;
- analyze the nutritional status of the athlete;
- Identify the health risks arising from the difficulty of the training process and can recommend appropriate nutritional measures to eliminate the risks;
- Define doping, categorize prohibited substances and methods, and identify the risks associated with doping rule violations;
- individualizing an athlete's diet with respect to the specific needs of the athlete resulting from the annual training cycle (weight reduction, weight maintenance or weight gain, competition preparation);
- recommend the use of food supplements and sports foods on the basis of current knowledge. - Syllabus
- Syllabus :
- 1. Limiting aspects of sports nutrition;
- 2. Doping; definition and categorization of prohibited substances and methods;
- 3. Evaluation of the athlete's nutritional status (athletic nutrition assessment tools, training and nutritional anamnesis, anthropometric measurements related to nutritional status, body composition, energy and nutrient needs analysis, energy availability);
- 4. Nutrition before, during and after exercise (specifics and differences of training nutrition, specifics of endurance sports nutrition and strength disciplines, team sports and aesthetic sports);
- 5. Hydration in Sport - fluid intake strategies, autonomous vs. predetermined model;
- 6. Food supplements in sports (categorization, legislation, practical use in sports - ergogenic food supplements, regenerative and health-preventive role of dietary supplements);
- 7. Health aspects of sports nutrition (alternative nutritional guidelines, nutrition of sports children and seniors, food intolerance, nutrition during convalescence, female athletic triad, GIT problems, hyponatremia, remodeling);
- 8. Environmental conditions and sports nutrition - nutrition of an athlete;
- 9. Sports nutrition as a scientific discipline (work with specialized texts, research work, orientation in specialized literature focusing on sports nutrition);
- 10. Specifics of nutrition: running, cycling, swimming, winter sports, team sports, speed and force disciplines, sports with weight categories.
