Course objectives
Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic nutritional recommendations based on the individual balance of nutritional status. Students are also familiarized with methods and nutritional evaluation of various diseases. Graduate of this course will be able to analyze nutritional status and make nutritional recommendations for adults and children from normal population and with disease.
Learning outcomes
Graduate of this course will be able to: - know nutritional recommendations, their standards and modifications within intervention measures;
- to distinguish adequate and inappropriate nutritional practices in individuals;
- to propose adjustments to the diet so as to match the individual needs of the individual;
- to understand the principle of working with nutritional SW and significant indicators of anthropometric and nutritional assessment methods;
- understand nutritional propedeutics with anthropometric measurement;
- Apply therapeutic procedures for working with the client in a nutrition counseling center;
Syllabus
  • 1. Qualitative and quantitative nutritional disorders. Malnutrition. catabolism, anabolism.
  • 2. Methods of nutrition assessment.
  • 3. Anthropometric measurements of nutritional status.
  • 4. SW and diet evaluation for adults and children.
  • 5. Working with a client in a nutrition counseling.
  • 6. Eating Disorders. Mental anorexia and bulimia.
  • 7. Obesity. Metabolic syndrome. Diabetes mellitus.
  • 8. Oncological diseases.
  • 9. Vitamins in etiology and pathogenesis of diseases.
  • 10. Mineral substances in etiology and pathogenesis of diseases.
  • 11. Allergy, intolerance.
  • 12. Alternative nutritional guidelines.

Assessment methods
Compulsory lessons, max. 2 excused absences. 3 Continuous tests with   at least 75% success rate. 5 Homework - Required to submit in the correct wording. The exam will be written and oral - writing a case report with questions and a subsequent interview.
