Course objectives
The course enhances students' physical fitness through hiking, supports their navigation skills in nature, and deepens their understanding of the Brno region and its surroundings. It also aims to strengthen teamwork abilities, critical thinking in route planning, and reflection on the ecological and cultural aspects of visited locations. Emphasis is placed on developing a responsible and sustainable approach to nature and fostering a lifelong active lifestyle.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students should be able to: know the basic principles of hiking understand principles of orientation in nature (map and GPS) work with information about mountains, walking, leisure time, hiking
Syllabus
  • Students will complete three full-day trips according to the schedule and timetable of their seminar group. The approximate schedule and destinations of the trips are provided in the seminar group notes in IS. Detailed information about the route, meeting times, and locations will be sent via email or posted in the course discussion forum at least one week before the event. Trips take place in all weather conditions. In case of adverse weather, the route may be appropriately shortened. If a trip is canceled (e.g., due to the instructor’s illness), it can be replaced by: An individually documented trip recorded via the Strava app. A rescheduled trip in week 13 of the semester.

The student must actively participate in all 3 hikes, 100% participation is required.

In exceptional cases, a replacement with another seminar group is possible after prior email agreement with the teachers of both seminar groups.

Teacher's information
The course, in the form of one-day hiking trips, will take place on the following dates: March 28, April 4, and April 25, 2025. By enrolling in the course, students acknowledge that they are responsible for covering all transportation costs to individual trips (the region around Brno) and any related expenses (e.g., entrance fees).
