Course objectives
The course aims to help students develop their soft skills in academic contexts. One of the objectives consists in the vocabulary building, and in the development of fluency of oral expression. Students will be acquainted with strategies that will help them present issues of their interest, expressing and defending the opinion. Development of critical thinking and team collaboration, are also taken into account. Another of the main objetives, is to offer students a holistic overview of the complex Latin American reality.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will acquire a holistic view of the current situation in a selection of countries in the Hispanic world, in particular in the macro-region of the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America. As a result, students will have an overview of the multicultural and multi-ethnic societies in each country. Students will also have a general knowledge of both the social structures in the majority society and a basic knowledge of the general profile of the most representative ethnic groups (their history, culture and traditional way of life).
