- Course objectives
- In the subject of Culture, Language, and Society of Vietnam, you will have the opportunity to delve into the foundations of the Vietnamese language and culture. Within the Vietnamese language lessons without an intermediary language, you will be able to test your understanding of the Vietnamese language by deriving meaning from practical situations. In subsequent lessons, we will collectively contemplate and discuss the differences between Czech and Vietnamese cultural customs, and the changes within Vietnamese society over time. The discussed topics will encompass the role of women in Vietnamese society and within families, intriguing moments from Vietnamese history and literature, the lives of the first generation of Vietnamese migrants, potential systemic solutions for integrating the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, and the theme of exploring the identity of "banana kids."
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completing the course, the student will be able to: - initiate communication with a Vietnamese speaker in the Vietnamese language - effectively handle specific situations involving Vietnamese speakers with comprehension - think about systemic solutions for integrating the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic - identify the specifics of the Vietnamese language and culture - engage in informed discussions about Vietnamese culture and society.

- 1. Introductory Session 2. Vietnamese Language Without Intermediary Language and Characteristics of Vietnamese 3. Language and Culture in the Everyday Life of Vietnamese People 4. Vietnamese Community in the Czech Republic and the Life of the First Generation 5. "Banana Children" – Stories of Searching for Personal Identity 6. Women in Vietnamese Society and within the Family 7. Vietnamese Family and Its Transformations Throughout History 8. Chapters from Vietnamese Literature 9. Chapters from Vietnamese History 10. Philosophical Systems in Vietnam and Their Influence on Contemporary Vietnamese Society, the Impact of Traditions on the Current Lives of Vietnamese in Vietnam and the Czech Republic, the Relationship of Vietnamese Parents and Children to Education. 11. Group Presentations and Collective Discussion on Topics from Vietnamese Studies 12. Consultations during the Reading Week Reading Material: Will always be provided well in advance of the lesson in the study materials.

- Lectures, group discussions, self-study, individual Vietnamese studies activity, written assignment.
- Assessment methods
- The teaching takes place in the form of seminars, in which active participation of each student is required in collective discussions. Sources from literature, audiovisual samples, and also students' own creative contributions serve as the basis for discussion. Requirements: 1. Active participation in discussions 2. Group presentation 3. Written assignment based on individual Vietnamese studies activity.
