Course objectives
The course is designed as a week-long intensive workshop. Students will participate in the first week after the end of the semester (i.e. from 20-24 May 2024). This will avoid any possible conflicts in schedule. The course gives the opportunity to experience the operation of a newsroom in real life. This gives the interested student the opportunity to try out all the elements of the job of a radio editor. These include coming up with topics based on current events, preparing news for regular sessions, as well as on-air recording and processing (post-production) of stories or live inputs. Beyond editorial duties, students will try their hand at reporting the news in a  live continuous broadcast. All this under the guidance of experienced professionals.
Learning outcomes
Students will experience the real functioning of a radio newsroom. This gives them another opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in the courses they have already taken. They will become more familiar with individual radio genres and improve their skills in sound post-production. They will also learn how to work under pressure and with tight deadlines. These skills can then make it much easier for them to, for example, take up compulsory internships.
Syllabus
  • The course is based on a simulation of a real newsroom operation.
