Course objectives
The course is the introduction to the partner relationships which are the inseparable part of modern society. The main question, which is discussed during the course is the stability of social order. The stability of traditional society was keeped by the activity of the all extensive family. The institution of partner relationship was constituted in the beginning of modern society. This institution becomes the assumption to get marriage as well as to establish the family. If we look at the character of this institution from the point of view of societal stability, we can see, that the feature of this institution is quite different from the rhetoric of society. This view is the subject of this course.

  • 1. Partner relationships like the part of modern society: from the family alliance system to individual marriage market. 2. Love and marriage market: macrosociological view (who gets married whom?) 3. Love and marriage market: microsociological view (what happens among partners?) 4. Individual choice or the continuity of social order? (seminar) 5. Intimacy like the part of modern partner relationships 6. From public to private and to intimacy sphere (seminar) 7. Sexual behaviour like the part modern partner relationships 8. Modern society and the invention of sexuality (seminar) 9. From partner relationship to marriage relationship 10. Money, power and gender role like the part of marriage partnerships (seminar) 11. Marriage partnership in working class and dual-career family. 12. Man and woman in blue-collar and dual-career marriage (seminar)
