- Course objectives
- The course of Modern Political History of Europe acknowledges students from the branch European studies with problem of modern political evolution in European states. The subject covers the period of time between 1789 and 1989. In the course introduction the students will obtain basic summary of specifics of European development and geopolitical segmentation of Europe. The primary aim of this course is to acknowledge students with more general processes which formed the appearance of modern mass democratic policy in this period of time. In the extent necessary for understanding of specific evolution of particular European macro-regions, the version is complemented also with survey of social and economic-social aspects. The main aim of this subject is to understand the processes which form modern and contemporary European policy and society; then to obtain key information about progress of European countries history in 20th century and to interpret contemporary European policy with the knowledge of its historical dimension.

- 2) MODERNISM: Demographic, social, economic and political trends of modern Europe
- 3) REVOLUTION: Europe a European revolutions in period of time between years 1789 – 1848/1849
- 4) NATIONALISM: Definition of nation, ideology of nationalism and formation and difference in the evolution of modern European nations
- 5) DEMOCRACY: Path towards liberal constitutionalism, legally consistent state and modern mass democratic competitive policy
- 6) CRISIS: Impact of first World War on European communities, political problems of democracy in interwar Europe
- 7) TOTALITARISMUS: Communism, Fascism and Nazism
- 8) DECOMPOSITION: World War Two and separation of Europe by „Iron Curtain“
- 9) RESUMPTION: West Europe between 40th – 60th years of 20th century

- The course is successfully completed by written test. Overall assessment is composed of test (80 points), two ongoing correspondent test (10 points) and seminary work (10 points). For successful evaluation is necessary to obtain at least 60 points.
