Course objectives
The course acquaintes students with man's demands for energy and natural resources. It explains the mechanism of air, water and soil pollution and how organisms are affected. Attention is paid to pollution caused by noise, vibrations, heat, light and radiation. The course also involves a brief overview of environmental toxicology.
The risks of energy industry, mining, industry, agriculture, forest management, transport and tourism will be analysed. Special attention will be paid to problems of waste management, especially municipal waste.
Course is based mainly on the students-led seminars. Thus at the end of the course students should be able to:
understand the complexity of environmental problems;
have improved their ability to analyse new problems and find solutions;
critically reflects and evaluate policy intruments of solving environmental problems;
improved their presentation skills.
