- Course objectives
- Course sociologically analyze social phenomenon of antisemitism since prehistoric times up to post-modern era. Students can obtain a konowledge on antisemitism as an universal phenomenon that should be explain multidimensionally. Students will learn explanations of creation and spreading of antisemitism, about the history of this specific form of hatred, as well as about the influence of modernity and holocaust over processes of integration and assimilation of Jews. SOC 412 focuses on interconnections between antisemitism and anti-sionism, anti-americanism, and anti-westernism in recent EU. The course elaborates also on methodological dillemas of an antisemitism research, analyses antisemitism in political praxis of the Czech republic and analyses functions that modern antisemitism fulfills.

- 1st Seminar: Introduction into the course, antisemitism as a social phenomenon.
- 2nd Seminar: Reasons of existence of antisemitism.
- 3rd Seminar: Historical perspective of antisemitism.
- 4th Seminar: Reproducion of antisemitism.
- 5th Seminar: Antisemitism and conspiratory messages.
- 6th Seminar: Scope of antisemitism an quantitative researches.
- 7th Seminar: Reading week.
- 8th Seminar: Critical reflection of research of antisemitism.
- 9th Seminar: Antisemitic excesses.
- 10th Seminar: Antisemitism as a construct.
- 11th Seminar: Funcions of antisemitism.

- 13th Seminar: Future of antisemitism.
- Teaching methods
- Students systematically read reading materials for each seminar a they should demonstrate knowledge of obligatory readings. Power-point presentations are ready for every seminar and they are available to students.
- Assessment methods
- Conditions for passing an exam:
1. Systematic readings;
2. Prezentation (normally 20 minutes);
3. Final essay (minimally 10 pages);
4. Oral exam. Evaluation of students:
Student can obtain as many as 50 points, in case of obtaining less than 25 points student fails. In order to get credits and pass the exam student must pass a test and deliver an essay. Each step will be evaluated as follows:
20 % - test /max. 10 points/
50 % - final essay /max. 25 points/
30 % - oral exam /max. 10 points/ - Language of instruction
