- Course objectives
- Entitled the Chapters from the History of Czech Media II, the course aims at familiarising students with the development of Czech journalism from the mid-19th century until 1945. Special attention is paid mainly onto the daily political press. The course focuses on the issues of first Czech dailies of the 1860s (e.g. Čas, Hlas or Národní listy), Old-Czech and Young-Czech press, political press of the 1890s, the period of the First World War, the character and structure of media in the period of the First Republic, party press in 1918-1938, as well as the phenomenon of “Lidové noviny”. At the end of the course students should be able to: characterize the discussed issues, outline the Czech media development in this historical period, analyze the causes of Czech media development, examine their role in societal, political, economic and cultural contexts.
