- Course objectives
- The course is focused on issues concerning building european security policy. Particular attention will by drawn to the recent developments among EU and NATO structures and presumed trends in the short-run, mid-run and long-run.
Main objectives: to provide students with the basic knowledge concerning building of the security dimension of the european integration process; to elaborate their analyical capabilities in this field and their understanding of these processes. - Syllabus
- 1. History of security provision in Europe. WEU - an attempt to guarantee european security.
- 2. European political cooperation.
- 3. CFSD and ESDP. Development, intentions and reality.
- 4. Relations between CSFP, ESDP and NATO
- 5. Risks and benefits of CSFP and ESDP development for euroatlantic security relations.
- 6. Shortages of military equipment and operational capabilities of european allies.
- 7. European armament market: reality or utopia?
- 8. The United Kingdom and its attitude to CSFP and ESDP.
- 9. France and Germany and their attitude to CSFP and ESDP.
- 10. Attitudes of USA and Russia to CSFP and ESDP.
- 11. The Czech republic and CSFP/ESDP.
- 12. Conduct of peace support operations: an implementation os ESDP?

- Assessment methods
- Teaching methods: reading, consultations, elaborating a seminar paper. Course Requirements: 1. Final written examination, to pass the examination, students have to obtain at last 60% score. 2. To qualify for the final examination students have to elaborate a seminar paper on one of proposed topics. The paper should be approximately 12 pages in length.
