Prerequisites
The course is prepared for students of magister programe of psychology and psychotherapy. Theoretical lecture is complemented by a interactive seminar. The course is suitable for students interested in klinical psychological or psychotherapeutical work. It presumes a basic knowledge of psychotherapeutic approaches and diagnostics.

Course objectives
After succesful graduation or the course PST 404 Psychotherapy in clinical practice a student will be able to:
understand central topics and dilemas of psychotherapeutical work in clinical practice conditions; understand specifics and limits of psychotherapeutic work wtih patients having a serious mental difficulties; use information about a patient for own independent clinical consideration; use basic psychotherapeutical terms and create a description of a clinical case; aply basic skills for being in contact with patient with psychiatric diagnosis;
Syllabus
  • The course consists of a combination of theoretical lecture and interactive seminar:
  • 1. In the lecture main diagnostic categories of mental disorders are ppresented. Theoretical part is focused on the basic topics related to the application of psychotherapy to clinical practice, for example:
  • therapepeutic relationship
  • practical skills of psychotherapist in establishing a therapeutic relationship.
  • diagnostics in psychotherapy - gains and limits
  • mental hygiene of psychotherapist
  • burn-out syndrom and its prevention
  • cooperation of psychotherapist with other helping professions.
  • 2. Seminar consists of presentation of a case study by the teacher and its common interactive analysis. Students will use the theoretical knowledge from the previous lecture. During seminar students by a training of a clinical situation experience the specific situation of mental sick person. Furthermore they learn basic skills for being in contact with patients with psychiatrick diagnosis. Active presentation of own thoughts and questions is required.

Teaching methods
theoretical lecture; study of recommended texts connected to the topic of a theoretical lecture; presentation of a clinical case; analysis of a clinical case; discussion about presented clinical case; training of basic communication skills for the contact with patients with psychiatric diagnosis;
Assessment methods
Evaluation methods:
Observing of active involvement of students to the case study analysis and discussion.;
Supervizing the gained skills of communication.
Final seminal work. One psychopathological symptom is described from the perspectives of three different psychotherapeutic approaches. Own critique oppinion is required.
Examination. Examination will be in a written form based on the evaluation of the seminar paper. Abilities to describe the topic, express own oppinion and work with literature will be evaluated.;
