Course objectives
The course has two basic objectives:

1. Students will understand basic theoretical and methodological approaches to research of the relationship between a man and the color. They will be able to analyze the advantages and lacks of published research work. The aim of the presentation of a selected research work is to prepare the participant for his/her own independent research project in the field of the color psychology.

2. The same emphasis will be placed on reflection of his/her own relationship to color, self-reflection and individual experience in an interaction with color. A personal experience, color associations, general rules and limits of generalization of the individual experience will be monitored.

  • 1. The explanation of a color vision
  • The color in physics, physiology and the psychology of a color vision, the typical phenomena in the field of the color psychology, theories of the color vision, color schemes in the terms of physics, a logic in the color systems, the colors of nature, the color contrasts and their psychological effects...
  • 2. The social level
  • The categorization of colors and its specificity in different cultures, the color symbolism, the color associations, the importance for thinking and communication, the application possibilities in the field of ergonomics, the color in visual arts, religion...
  • 3. The level of the psychological research
  • The color preference - its nature and meaning, the development of the knowledge, the color preference and color (psychological) diagnosis and limits of their utilization, the Lüscher color theory, Pyramid-test..., examples of the main research lines in the field of the color psychology...
  • 4. The application of the color psychology
  • The color in clothing and psychological effects, the mechanisms of a color typology, the colors in an environment - architecture, interiors...
  • 5. The colors "differently"
  • The colors in the language, proverbs, similes, metaphors; the color "below the surface of things", the color in the "esoteric" literature, a consensus and differences in a confrontation with the scientific approach...
