- Main objective of the course can be summarized as follows: students should be able to know electoral formulae and understand the theories about the dependence of the electoral and party systems
- Syllabus
- 1. History of elections 2. Classification of the electoral systems 3. Laws of Duverger and Sartori 4. Electoral systems research 5. FPTP and two-round systems 6. Other majoritarian formulae 7. Semiproportional systems 8. List proportional systems I. 9. List proportional systems II. 10. STV and MMP 11. Mixed systems 12. Seminar - which electoral system is the best? - Teaching methods
- The course is mostly conducted through lectures. Students also write an essay about the electoral system of respective country of the World.
- Assessment methods
- Students write a seminar paper (maximum 10 points) during the semester and at the end of the semester write an final written exam (maximum 20 points). It is necessary to get at least 18 points.
