Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce rural as a specific material and mental space through the optics of sociological theory and research. Attention is paid to developments in sociological concepts, rural definitions and their problems, changes in rural areas in the 20th and early 21st centuries. To devote ourselves to the development of agriculture and the concept of landscape. A separate part will focus on the countryside as a politician, the world's and Czech academic institutions will be introduced. We will also notice the present Czech countryside with the optics of everyday life, involvement in civic and interest associations and the problems that are associated with the present country. Students will make an independent work in the field of field research and will present their knowledge to each other. Discussions within each lesson will take place over mandatory texts and (documentary) films that will be selected thematically.

Teaching methods
Teaching methods include lectures, individual work of students (reading of obligatory literature, execution of data collection in the field, interpretation and presentation of acquired data) and discussion.
Assessment methods
Active participation in seminars (continuous fulfillment of assigned tasks), seminar work (analysis of selected problem), written test from given literature.
