- Course objectives
- The course deals with selected issues of the history of international relations. On successful completion of the course, students will broaden and deepen their knowledge in selected issues of the history of international relations, improve their ability to present a coherent, rational and factually correct justification of historical events in the history of international relations, and improve their ability to interpret the history of international relations in the 20th century.

- 1) Introduction into the issue and with the contents of the course, award of literature and papers
- 2) Japans rise to world power and the consequences for the system of international relations
- 3) Colonial policy of European powers between the world wars
- 4) The role of the Soviet Union in World War II. Involuntary change of alliances and its foreign policy consequences for post-war arrangements I.
- 5) The role of the Soviet Union in 2nd World War II. Involuntary change of alliances and its foreign policy consequences for post-war arrangements II.
- 6) The United States and the end of isolationistic foreign policy. Foreign policy circumstances of the entry of the United States into World War II.
- 7) Decolonization, a comparison of European powers and their implications
- 8) The formation and disintegration of the Soviet bloc
- 9) Arab-Israeli wars and their impact on world politics
- 10) Detente policy and a new German eastern policy as its part
- 11) Trends in armament and disarmament processes during the Cold War
- 12) Bipolarism versus economic tripolarism during the Cold War. Movements of the world economic power after 1945

- Lectures, class discussions, reading literature to broaden and deepen the knowledge acquired during lectures, utilization of position papers to analyze a subject within the course, utilization of presentations to improve presentation skills of students.

- Written test to the extent of required literature to at least 60% of all points, presentation or essay (9 000 characters.)
