- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide basic knowledge on the topic of the Internet and its impact on physical and mental health of people with the emphasis on the psychological perspective.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing this course, student will be able to:
- Understand the basic concepts of health and the Internet
- See the specifics of online communication in the context of health and the Internet and, if necessary, apply them to other topics
- Identify the differences between online counseling and online therapy
- Provide information and links to online counseling and therapy
- Describe various intervention and prevention programmes online
- Reflect on the role of technology in the lives of clients and helping professionals in the context of health and the Internet
- Critically assess the relevance of health-related information Navigate in the basics of m-health applications (features, users, motivation to use)
- Identify and process relevant literature on selected topics of health and the Internet
- Navigate in online platforms relevant to health and the Internet in the Czech online environment
- Syllabus
- 1) Specifics of online communication in the context of health and internet
- 2) The use of internet in psychotherapy and counseling
- 3) Online communities and health. The role of technologies in eating disorders
- 4) Online prevention and intervention (in the context of eating disorders)
- 5) Experts in helping professions and their perception of technologies in the context of health
- 6) Seeking information online in the context of health, M-health applications
- Teaching methods
- Lectures, homework, class discussion, group projects.
- Assessment methods
- To obtain the credits students must:
- fulfill the attendance – 1 of 6 lectures is allowed not to be attended
- fulfill the tasks during semester (6 in total)
- have a group presentation in the seminar part of the lecture on one topic chosen from the provided list
- participate on the final colloquium
