Basic knowledge of statistics and research methods. There are two co-requisites: Psychometrics: measurement in psychology and Ethics in psychology.

Course objectives
The introductory part of the course is dedicated to general issues of psychological assessment – students will be introduced to the process of psychological assessment and attention will be also paid to general issues of the test theory and psychometrics. Further on, a systematic overview will be given of psychological assessment methods intended for adult population including the starting points for their development and basic psychometric features. The aim of the course is not only students’ theoretical introduction to the individual psychological assessment methods for adults but also acquiring practical skills of their administration and evaluation.
Syllabus
  • Classes are held in six thematic blocks, always 4 lessons once every two weeks. 1. Psychological assessment as a science: The object and aim of psychological assessment. Methodological principles in psychological assessment of adults. History of development and use of psychological assessment methods. Psychometric and clinical approach in psychological assessment. Psychological assessment process: Concept of assessment. Assessment problem, task and hypotheses. Interpersonal factors of examination. Ethical principles of the use of psychological assessment methods. Psychological examination report: Interpreting psychological examination results. 2. Classification of psychological assessment methods. Clinical methods. Observation. Interview. Objective and subjective anamnesis. Testing methods. Classification of tests. Test theory. The concept of measurement in psychology. Standardisation. Item analysis. Validity and ways of its assessment, kinds of validity. Reliability and ways of its assessment, sources of measurement errors. Normalisation and kinds of norms (age, quantile, standard). 3. Performance tests. Intelligence tests. Tests of individual psychological functions and special abilities. Diagnosis of CNS organic disorder. 4. Questionnaire methods. Essence and classification of questionnaire methods. One-dimensional and multidimensional personality questionnaires. Questionnaires based on personality theories, empirical questionnaire methods, questionnaires based on factor analysis, etc. Psychopathologically-oriented questionnaires. 5. Projective techniques. Associative techniques, constructive techniques, completion techniques, selective and classification techniques, painting and other expressive techniques. 6. Objective personality tests. New trends in psychological assessment.

Teaching methods
Lecture, workshop, supervized assessment work.
Assessment methods
The course consists of lectures and seminars. In seminars, students acquire practical skills and experience with the administration and evaluation of particular methods of psychological assessment. During the term, students write a seminar work on an assigned topic. There is a written exam at the end of the course.
