- Course objectives
- At the end of this course, student shoud be able oriented at the special literature to general management; The student is concerned with general management used in contractor as well as non contractor kinds of organization; The student shoud be able to provide with basic knowledge usable in practice; The student should be ready to pursue study of special domain in management concentrated at managing teams and human leadership; The student should understand basic knowledge of managerial thinking, and of attitudes toward work with people, especially in small working groups.
- Syllabus
- 1) The Historical Development of Management: Management and human resources, basis terms and concepts. Classic management, thought waves and schools in management. “Management revolution”, management approaches in the 20th century. Contemporary trends in management. Loosening hierarchies – decentralization (development of divisions and holdings), outsourcing. The creation of networks, strategic partnership and strategic alliances. Virtual enterprise.
- 2) The Management of Firm, making Firm Structures and Processes: The creation of successful firm, pyramid of vitality. Assurance of firm’s usefulness, subjects, needs and products. Assurance of firm’s effectiveness, processes, resources and structures. Organization of processes in the firm and corresponding human resources. Functional structure of the firm in processes and branches, the principle of functional and object specialization in creating firm’s structure, margin of management. The basic types of organizational structures Adjusting of balance in the firm’s processes. The role of capital in the system of the firm. Assuring firm’s stability. Assuring dynamics of the firm, external dynamics, restricting dynamics.
- 3) Human Resources Management (HRM), Developing the Potential of People: Human resources, attributes, abilities and attitudes (loyalty). Diagnostics of individual’s potential. Desirable developments in individuals’ potentials. Understanding the sources of failures – changing attitudes and skills. Motivation, stimulation, principles of motivation, levels of motivation. The influence of character to motivation. The influence of environment to motivation (A. Maslow theory). Harmony of abilities and demands, methods of individuals’ abilities development. Conflicting behavior of people – analysis and management of conflict situations. Individual development of worker and opportunities for personal development.
- 4) Leading of Groups, making Teams: The consideration of personal relations. The choice and strategy of behavior. Using competition, cooperation, regulating sacrifice, avoiding destruction and passivity. The differences among people, conflicts in the group. Human and objective part of the conflict, apparent and hidden part of the conflict. The creation and development of the team. Team characteristics, solving common problems. The process of changing group to team. Roles in the team. Development of the team – sharing thoughts, diversity of thinking and potentials. Styles of team management and trends in development of management.
