The course Practice in special education presupposes namely the knowledge of developmental psychology, educational, school and counseling psychology. It is thus necessary for the students to recapitulate that knowledge before the beginning of the course. The course is delivered entirely in Czech language. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- The objective of the subject is to acquaint students with fundamental topics of special education and its application to the educational system. .
Students will acquaint themselves with: .
Basic concepts such as disease, disability, handicap.
They will be able to explain the place of special education in the school system.
They will be able to qualify the role of a psychologist in the services of special education.
They will be able to characterize methods and procedures typically used in special education as well as psychological methods typically employed in facilities of special education.
Intensive attention will paid to selected areas of special education, to its relation with psychology and to its benefit for process of education and upbringing. - Learning outcomes
- After the completion of the course, students will be able to precisely describe the specific aspects of various kinds of disability, the peculiarities of their assessment and of the methods and procedures necessary for there remediation. They will know the possibilities of setting up the support measures based on the severity of various disabilities. They will be aware of elementary legal framework of the care provided to these pupils and students.

- Teaching methods
- The main teaching method is theory-based lecture supplemented with case studies. In some cases students will have the opportunity to visit Centers of special education or elementary schools. In these facilities they familiarize themselves with the peculiarities of the work of a psychologist and they will be able to deeply comprehend specific aspects of the assessment and remediation related to particular types of disabilities.
- Assessment methods
- Written exam, the aim of which is to check the students' knowledge of specific types of disabilities. The stress will be put on knowledge of specific signs distinctive to each type of disability, on knowledge of possible assessments, support measures and on prognosis with respect to the severity of an impairment.
