Course objectives
1) Introduce the concept of participation as part of the public decision-making and planning process. Show different ways of civic participation, its methods and discuss its positive and negative aspects. The course is composed of theoretical and practical parts. 2) The aim of the theoretical part is to acquaint students with texts on the topic of civic participation and the development of discussion on this topic. It will provide the theoretical anchoring of participation within the democratic tradition. 3) The practical part focuses on applying participatory practice in sustainable urban planning, using interactive methods. It will also provide students with the knowledge needed to prepare a participative process, as well as with the competences associated with active participation in similar processes.
Learning outcomes
Student will know the theoretical discussion about civic participation, incl. risks of participation, will be able to evaluate the quality of the participative process and plan the process using a variety of methods.
