Course objectives
The objective of the course is to give an overview on Foreign Policy Analysis (FPA) as a subfield of International Relations. The course takes a look at the possible variables influencing the formulation and implementation of foreign policy, such as the decision-making process, the personalities of the leaders, the role of bureaucracy, national culture/identity and so forth. In keeping with the tradition of FPA, the course aims to be multidisciplinary in that insights from psychology, history, sociology and economics are included.
Learning outcomes
The students gain an overview on FPA as a subfield of International Relations. He/she has knowledge on the insights and methods of FPA and is able to apply these in his/her future university or work assignments, such as seminar papers, thesis’ or analyses. The student is able to identify the political and economic interests of a given player and use various methods of explaining its actual foreign policy behavior.

The course takes place on 10th – 11th December 2020 (Thu – Fri). There are 4*90-minutes sessions a day = 8 sessions overall. The sessions start at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00 on both the 10th and 11th December.
