The course is prepared for students of magister program of psychology focused on clinical psychology and psychotherapy. The course is in form of interactive seminars and case discussions, so an active attitude of students is a prerequisite. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- The goal of this course is to provide students with basic orientation in both demands and risks of psychotherapy in the clinical practice context. Knowledge and skills obtained in the course are a prerequisite for psychology students' professional focus on applying psychotherapy with people with severe mental difficulties. Students gradually learn knowledge about application of psychotherapy in the work with people with different psychiatric diagnoses. They also acquire abilities to understand a specific context and story of one psychotherapy case and identify needed interventions.

- After successful graduation of the course student will be able to:
understand demands and limitations of psychotherapeutic and counseling work in practice conditions
focus their professional interest based on real demands of practice
reflect on clients in context of professional service, which clients use
work with case formulations of psychotherapy and counseling
connect understanding of work context and therapeutic case narratives
identify needed specific psychotherapeutic interventions and also risks with people with different psychiatric diagnoses in the context of clinical practice - Syllabus

- Psychotherapy in clinical practice: possibilities and limits. Psychopathology and clinical diagnostics from the psychotherapy perspective.
- Psychotherapy with people with depression
- Psychotherapy with people with panic disorder
- Psychotherapy with people with suicidal tendencies
- Psychotherapy with people with schizophrenia
- Psychotherapy with people with borderline personality disorder
- Psychotherapy with people with traumatic experience
- Each seminar includes an introduction of a relevant diagnostic system, psychotherapeutic approach and a common interactive case analysis.

- seminars; study of recommended texts connected to the topic of seminars; written ellaboration of each of discussed diagnostic issues; analysis and a discussion of the presented clinical case; training of clinical case formulation skills; discussion of the specifics and risks of psychotherapy work with people with different psychiatric diagnosis;

Checking of study of the material recommended for each separate seminar topic.
Observing of active involvement of students to the case study analysis and discussion.;
Checking the search and study of texts relevant to the chosen topic.

- Psychotherapy is applied in different kinds of a work context. This course introduces how psychotherapy can be used in the conditions of clinical practice with people who experience serious mental difficulties and often need a psychiatric treatment beside psychotherapy. Students will gradually learn specifics of psychotherapy works with people with depression, panic disorder, suicidal tendencies, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, trauma. The course will also include information about combination of psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy. A clinical diagnostics from the psychotherapy point of view will be introduced. The intention of this course is to provide information about an established approach and also risk points when using psychotherapy in the work with people in the specific conditions of clinical practice. Students will learn to consider psychopathology symptoms of a client with respect to the uniqueness of her/his story and context.Concrete case examples will show possibilities of individual support and development, which psychotherapy can offer in the specific context of clinical practice.
