Prerequisites
The course is addressed to students of the master's degree program, who are expected to have basic knowledge in the field of qualitative and quantitative research.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is a) to give students the knowledge of the established and current topics, analytical concepts and research problems in journalisms content research b) to involve students in a basic application of this knowledge in their own research projects (eg. diploma thesis, research paper).
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- list and define basic research problems and analytical concepts in the research of news and current affairs content;
- to design their own research of news content ;
- to gather relevant news and current affairs stories and to create a sample for her or his own analysis of news and current affairs content;
-conceptualize the research problem and operationalize the analytical concepts that will be observed in the news content of students choice;
- apply the discussed analytical concepts and types of analyzes in own analysis of news/editorial content of student’ choice;
- to present the results of own research activity in the form of an oral presentation and in writing, in the form of short research report from a pilot study.

  • 4th week: Presentations of students' analyses I
  • 5th week: News framing analysis
  • 6th Week: Analysis of reporting styles and role models of news reporting
  • 7th week: Presentations of students' analyses II
  • 8th Week: Analysis of objectivity and its violation I
  • 9th week: Analysis of objectivity and its violation II
  • 10th week: Presentations of students' analyses III
  • 11th week: Analysis of ideology in news
  • 12th week: Analysis of news photography and relations between text and image

CONDITIONS FOR OF COMPLETION OF THE COURSE
-Participation in seminars
-Readings (min. 21 points in 8 short online tests)
-Completing practical tasks in small groups (min. 51 points for content and min. 16 points for team-work).
ASSEMSSMENTS (TASKS):
a) 8 x online test (8 x 1-5 points)
b) 4 x presentation of practice analyzes in groups (4 x 0-25 points)
c) Team work throughout the semester (0-30 points)
