- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to develop students' knowledge in the field of media regulation; to expand information on media law to other European countries; to teach students to apply principles and norms of legal regulation to specific journalistic activities. The complexity of the course is based on the requirements of the application sphere, as elaborated in the market analysis.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to: Identify and describe the principles of media regulation; Compare basic approaches to legal regulation of media in Europe; Apply principles and norms of legal regulation to specific journalistic activities; Identify potential legal issues of journalistic practice; Analyze judicial decisions in the area of media law.
- Syllabus
- Topics: 1. Basic methods of media regulation. 2. The concept of freedom of speech. 3. Individual external (legal) restrictions on freedom of expression. 4. Protection of personality. 5. The journalist and his legal status. 6. Administrative law regulation of printed media. 7. Basic administrative law institutes for regulation of radio and television broadcasting. 8. Public service broadcasting. Specification of the legal regulation of Czech Television and Czech Radio. 9. Joint legal institutes of press law and broadcasting rights. 10. Specifics of speech on the Internet. Problems of jurisdiction. 11. Legal regulation of advertising. Basic institutes of so-called advertising law. 12. Summary of the topic.
