Prerequisites
The course is aimed at foreign undergraduate students wishing to acquire basic knowledge and skills in Spanish through English. The students will have completed the course CJVS001 Spanish for Beginners.

Course objectives
The objective of the course is to build the knowledge of Spanish at the A1-A2 level of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). At the end of the course, the student will be able to understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, local area, work in diplomacy). He will also be able to read very short, simple texts, find specific, predictable information in simple everyday material. Also, the student will be able to communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities, to describe in simple terms the family and other people, living conditions, educational background and present or most recent job. Last but not least, he will be able to write short, simple notes and messages relating to matters in areas of immediate needs, as well as a very simple personal letter.

  • Revisions; ir + a + infinitive; family; talk about your family; numbers 100-2000; managing your time; poder, deber, querer; direct object/indirect object; making a phone call; imperative; taking a message, past tense (perfecto compuesto); adverbs; leisure time; leisure activities; eating, dining out; irregular verbs; prepositions and adverbs of space; house; describing a place and localising in space; ordinal numbers; conditional; placement of adjective; adverbs; possessive pronouns; comparative and superlative; shopping and location; types of accommodation; gerund; pronouns and indefinite adjectives; airplane, train, hotel; programme of work and visit; negotiations; international relations; credit test.

Teaching methods
Class discussions, presentations, homework, reading, dictations, grammar and vocabulary exercises. Individual, pair, group activities.
Assessment methods
Regular attendance (70%) and participation in the course with cameras and microphones on. The student also has to complete seven mandatory tasks during the semester (written texts, recordings, powerpoint presentation) and final written tasks and recordings.
