Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide general overview of the military policy problematic. Students should be able to understand and to explin three main topics: 1. theoretical conceptions of armed forces role in a democracy, 2. analysis of chosen segments of the military policy (recruiting of personal, military planning, economy of armed forces), 3. Czech armed forces transformation.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge of the most important phenomenon in fields of military policy, defence planning and building of armed forces. Students should be able to analyze a particular issue within above mentioned fields connected to the Czech or Slovak Republic.

Assessment methods
Each week: lectures, class discussions. Students can obtain 36 points total. They will receive a final letter grade (A-F) for the semester based on the following components: 0-20 points for seminary thesis; 40 points final written exam. Grading: A; 60 - 56 points B; 55 – 51 C; 50 – 46 D; 45 – 41 E; 40 – 36 F; less than 35 points

The course is taught annually.
Teacher's information
As part of the requirements for successful completion of the course, a seminar paper of 20,000 - 25,000 characters, including spaces and footnotes, must be prepared and accepted. The seminar paper will be written on the topic "Current issues in the military policy of the Czech Republic (or Slovakia)". In justified cases it may be allowed to elaborate another country. The thesis will be evaluated on the student's inventiveness, ability of analytical thinking, quality of processing, logical structure of the seminar paper, whether the form of processing corresponds to the assignment, the scope and quality of the range of sources on which the thesis is based - work with specialized literature.
