- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to introduce students the most common themes of child counseling. The focus of the course is on child's difficulties in her broader context (child's developmental stage, needs, life situation etc.) and on a counseling process (with whom to work, when, how etc.).
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, students should be able:
to understand the impact that the most common problems of childhood have on various aspects of child's life (e.g. how the ADHD influences child's behavior, family life, child's school performance, relationships with peers, self-esteem and life satisfaction)
to provide basic counseling for parents and teachers of children with the most common difficulties (ADHD, ADD, ASD, anxiety, problem behavior, aggression)
to create an individualized plan of care for children with different types of difficulties with respect to their needs, life context, and developmental stage - Syllabus

- Principles of working with children
- Principles of working with adults - parents, teachers etc.
- School maturity/readiness, adaptation to school
- Anxiety, problem behavior, aggression, sensory hypersensitivity
- Divorce, family conflicts

- lectures, case studies, class discussions, self-led learning and studying

- fulfilling requirements: presentation of a case study and accepted written individualized counseling plan based on presented case study
final exam: written test
the final grade is based on a sum of points gained for written individualized counseling plan and points gained for written test - Language of instruction
