Course objectives (in Czech)
This course is designed to investigate and explore the communication processes associated with families. We will examine theory/research on the role of communication in creating and maintaining marriages and families. Specifically, we will examine theories of communication and family life cycles, different family forms, understudied families, power and conflict in families, and communication and stress in families. Cross-cultural differences in family communication will also be explored.
Learning outcomes (in Czech)
• Master the concepts and vocabulary of family communication research – and be able to use this language appropriately. • Identify, describe, and explain theoretical approaches to family communication research. • Evaluate and critique empirical family communication research. • Articulate original ideas on family communication research. • Understand the impact of family communication on society. • Uncover the generational transmission of family communication patterns.
