- SPRn5001 is an introductory course that introduces students to the creation of a thesis/dissertation. In the following semester, it is followed by the Conceptualization course and then the Diploma Seminar course. These three courses form the compulsory part of the study consisting of the preparation of the final/diploma thesis. The thesis usually takes three semesters to complete. Students enroll in this course for three semesters before completing the standard period of study. The course is taught during one day at the beginning of the semester. During the semester, students consult with thesis advisors and submit written assignments on a rolling schedule.

- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is 1. to systematically acquaint students with the theoretical, methodological, and formal requirements of the Department of Social Policy and Social Work towards their final/diploma thesis and 2. to provide students with support in the formulation of the topic, the preparation of the project of the thesis/dissertation and its assignment.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon graduation from the course, the student will be able to submit a thesis project including a justification of the basic research question to which he/she will seek an answer in the preparation of the thesis.

- Teaching methods
- The content of the course includes introductory lectures by the teacher and ongoing consultations with the supervisor; formulation of the topic, project, and assignment of the final thesis, including the formulation of the basic research question.
- Assessment methods
- The course is completed by credit. The prerequisite for graduation is attendance at the introductory seminar, submission of the developed topic, submission and acceptance of the project, and assignment of the final thesis.
