Course objectives
Students will adopt technical basics for capturing and editing sound, photos and video. They will learn to handle equipment for capturing audio/photo/video material, choose appropriate devices, combine them and eliminate factors decreasing the quality of records. Furhter, they will familiarize with basics of editing of captured material (format options, operating software, export etc.). The main goal of this subject is to adopt fundamental skills, that they can develop in subsequent courses.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge - basic orientation in theory, but mainly operational knowledge in the field of broadcasting media technology. Having passed the subject, the student will be able to use photographic, sound and video technologies and software necessary for the exercise of the profession in the progressive media era. Further, he/she will be able to analyze the technical quality and parameters of journalistic production. Abilities - practical and functional - the student will be able to use his/her knowledge in practice while creating and evaluating journalistic works. He/she is capable of working self-dependently. He/she manages the entire process from taking the audio/video recording, through its processing and adjustment to exporting it. General competencies - the student, being expertly equipped in media technologies, will be able to use the knowledge and abilities in everyday news reporting, work independently and bear the responsibility as expert technological editor in media industry.

  • 1. Introductory Seminar + Photography – basic terms, technical parameters of photography
  • 2. Photography – manipulating with recording devices + 1st task assignment (photo)
  • 3. Photography – composition, light, focal distance
  • 4. Photography – basics of editing photography
  • 5. Audio – basic terms, technical parametres of input, formats + submission of 1st task - photography
  • 6. Audio – manipulating with recording devices, capturing of audio + 2nd task assignment (audio)

Teaching methods
The course is designed as a seminar. Students will fulfil particularly practical excercises and group tasks.
Assessment methods
Only 2 absences are tolerated, active participation is recommended. Submission of 3 partial tasks, that will be announced in each block. Presentation of submitted tasks at final colloquium.
