Course intended for students of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Minimum level of Russian B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Course objectives
Develop academic and communicative skills and professional language aimed at students of the Faculty of Social Sciences; reaching level C1 of competence according to the CEFR. Appropriateness, fluidity and mediation techniques will be emphasized.
Learning outcomes
The participant will be able to understand a wide variety of extensive texts with a certain level of demand, as well as recognize implicit meanings in them. They will know how to express themselves fluently and spontaneously with semantic and grammatical precision, which will allow to differentiate nuances of meaning even in academic and work environments with a high degree of specialization and complexity.
Syllabus
  • The thematic axis of the course is based on the social sciences, specific topics will be related to security, international relations, ecology, may also be determined depending on the preferences and needs of the course participants. • Language, academic and other skills to be developed: • essay writing • reasonning • argumentation (arguments and examples) • oral presentation techniques • self-reflective writing • mediation techniques

Teaching methods
Presentations, discussions, work with authentic materials and specialized texts, group work.
Assessment methods
The course will be evaluated by the required portfolio assignments, to which formative feedback will be given; by the assignments completed during the semester; and by the final assignment on the exam. The scope of the portfolio depends on the way the course is completed (exam x credit) - the scope of the assignments will depend on the form of course completion chosen by the student (credit x exam). It is obligatory to attend seminars (70% attendance) and actively work at them.
