Course objectives
Framework and thematic definition: In the subject Climate change and possible solutions we will cover several thematic areas. The set of these thematic areas is hereinafter referred to as “CC”:
Planetology - dynamics of the earth's climate system (anthropogenic and natural factors), greenhouse effect mechanism, greenhouse gas concentrations, warming and other indicators of climate change, climate sensitivity, breaking points, climate models, etc.
Anthropogenic effects - greenhouse gas emissions and conventions for their "accounting", LULUCF (Land use, Land Use change and forestry)
Future scenarios and related transformations - SSP (Shared Socioeconomic pathways) and their international and local context, financial instruments, etc ...
Technological aspects of decarbonization - energy production and consumption, CO2 capture, possible scenarios of energy transformation in the Czech Republic
Impacts and adaptation - Vulnerability - Exposure - Hazard framework, significant risks and adaptation options.
Learning outcomes
After graduation, students should be able to:
understand CC (see previous definition) in context and quantitative perspectives
have an idea of working with CC data and the processing methods used
explain answers to frequently asked questions to the public, help someone to orientate in the topic, argue and reveal significant factual inconsistencies in argumentation
