- Cílem kurzu je uvedení do sociálně vědeckých teorií rozvojových studií, skrze multidisciplinární přístup, který umožňuje kritickou analýzu jednotlivých problematik rozvoje. Důraz je kladen na kritické chápání rozvoje jako konkrétního v historii zapuštěného projektu a jako politických, ekonomických a kulturních praktik v kontextu pozdní modernity. Kurz nabízí nejenom zevrubné seznámení s makro přístupy inspirovanými zejména ekonomickými teoriemi, ale i stále vlivnější mikro-přístupy generované v kontextu přístupech zaměřených na člověka, kódovaných jako přístup základních potřeb a nejnověji reformulovaných do přístupu základních práva a oprávnění. Dále je pozornost věnována sektorálním analýzám, jako přístup ke zdravotní péči, dostupnost vzdělání, redukce chudoby. Mimo kritiku ekonomického redukcionismu je nabídnuta kulturologická kritika rozvoje v kontextu post-koloniálních studií, sub-altern a gender studií. Základní schéma implementace rozvoje – projektový management je kriticky nahlížen v kontextu nejnovějších možností generovaných v teoriích dynamických systémů, který integruje do implementačních schémat akceptaci neinstitucionální ekonomie jako mainstreamového přístupu k ekonomickému rozvoji.
