- Course objectives
- The main goal of this course is to make students familiar with a few chosen models of discourse analysis and conversation analysis (we will work with models elaborated by Norman Fairclough, James Paul Gee, Theo Van Leeuwen, Stephen C. Levinson), which means both explaining main principles and strategies of each one of the models and teaching students the correct application of them on various media texts. The course is divided into three parts. In the first part, we will concern on theory and will talk about concepts like discourse, social constructivism, ideology and hegemony; this should give us solid background for analysis. In the second part, we will deal with various models of DA and CA and will examine their postulates, techniques and ways of application. The third part is fully devoted to practical training and using the models in one’s own analytical work.
