Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce to the students the most important methods to support gender equality (for example gender mainstreaming, gender budgeting, gender statistics as well as various forms of affirmative action) and their practical application based on the existing institutional background of gender equality politics in the Czech Republic, the UN and the EU.
After successfully completing the course, students will be able to differentiate, critically comment and apply the basic approaches for promoting gender equality and their tools as well as describe the institutional background (including key documents) for the support of gender equality on the level of the Czech Republic, the UN and the EU.

Teaching methods
The course is organized in the form of lectures, mainly focusing on the theoretical basics of the methods promoting gender equality and their institutional background, which explain and supplement the course readings. In the course of the semester, students hand in two individually written papers, dealing with the promotion of gender equality from a theoretical perspective and their critical reflection, which require active engagement with the relevant theoretical texts. Seminar discussions mainly deal with the practical aspects of promoting gender equality. To this end, students in teams prepare the presentation and critical evaluation of a „real life“ project promoting gender equality. The discussions on these projects complement and deepen the information from course literature and lectures first and foremost from a practical point of view. Together with the feedback to all the tasks, this helps students to better understand and interlink the information presented in the course. The final paper (again work in teams) gives students the opportunity to deal with one of the course topics (according to their own choice) in more detail.
Assessment methods
During the semester it is necessary to hand in 2 short assignments (home works engaging with the relevant literature in the form of short written papers) dealing with theoretical aspects of the approaches presented on the lectures. From these assignments students might gain 10 and 15 points. A written exam will be held at one of the course sessions by the end of the term, with questions related to the lectures as well as the relevant literature for to the lectures, mainly related to the theoretical basics of the methods promoting gender equality and their institutional background. From the test students might obtain 25 points. As a further task, students prepare and present a „real life“ project promoting gender equality as well as critically evaluate it. For this team presentation it is possible to obtein 30 points. The last assignment is writing a final paper, again in teams. The aim of this paper is to discuss in more detail one of the courses central topics. This paper is worth 25 points.
For successfully completing the course students need a minimum of 60 points (out of 100).
