Course objectives
At the end of the course students will be able to recognize basics of cognitive behavioural therapy approach, including its history. They will also gain some basic use of cognitive behavioural therapy in practic.
Syllabus
  • Block 1:
  • Lecture 1: History of CBT, main representatives. Roots and development of cognitive behavioural therapy. Roots and development of behavioural therapy, roots and development of cognitive therapy, merging of behavioural and cognitive principles. Cognitive behavioural therapy. CBT and other psychotherapeutic schools. Emotional problems in cognitive behavioural theory and practice.
  • Workshop 1: Getting acquainted with students, their motivations, knowledge about CBT. Discussion. Introduction to cognitive behavioural therapy, CBT assessment, practical training.
  • Block 2:
  • Lecture 2: Theory of CBT, basic conceptions, CBT models of emotional problems. Structure of CBT (screening, assessment). Formulations of problem, formulations of goals. Measures in CBT. Behavioural analysis, cognitive analysis, functional analysis.
  • Workshop 2: Practical training of cognitive behavioural access to emotional problems (Screening. Assessment. Formulation of problem. Goal. Measures. Behavioural, cognitive and functional analysis). Homework: term paper.
  • Block 3:
  • Lecture 3: Cognitive behavioural techniques. Behavioural therapeutic techniques. Cognitive therapeutic techniques. Complex cognitive – behavioural therapeutic programs.
  • Workshop 3: Practical training of working with cognitive behavioural therapeutic techniques. Consultation of papers.
  • Block 4:
  • Lecture 4: Practical application of CBT to chosen psychiatric problems (Anxiety disorder, Panic anxiety disorder, Agoraphobia, Social phobia, Simple phobia, Depression, Obsessive compulsive disorder..)
  • Workshop 4: Practical training of cognitive behavioural therapeutic techniques and complex CBT therapeutic programs to chosen psychiatric problems. Discussion.

Teaching methods
Four all-day class. Each class contains of one seminary and one lecture.
Assessment methods
Course credit, 2B credits. Course credit is awarded on the basis of 75 % participation, writing a term paper of 5-10 pages and doing homework between classes.
