Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the question of energy security of the EU. Thanks to successful completion of the course students will be able to analyze actors and principles of energy policy of the European Union in all its three basic dimensions - competition on the internal market, environmental issues connected to the energy and security of external supplies. Moreover students will be able to evaluate and summarize the main energy problems related to the EU. Finally, students will be able to make reasoned decisions about the up to date questions of the energy politics of the EU and member states.

  • Introduction to the course - Historical development of the Common Energy Policy of the EU (CEP) - Interpretation of the CEP in the theories of european integration - Key players of CEP, distribution of power in the system of the EU - Internal energy market - External dimension of the CEP - Environmental dimension of the CEP - National energy policies of selected member states

Teaching methods
Lectures involve class discussions and require active participation; seminar papers improve the ability of students to analyze particular energy issues; readings serve to broaden and deepen the spectrum of knowledge students acquire during lectures.
