Course objectives
The main aim of this course is to introduce ways of usage of social psychology in practise. This course if focus on topics of applied social psychology, maily interpersonal communication, close relationships in adolescence and adulthood, training groups and therapeutical groups, social psychology of metal health, social perception and selection and developing people, social psychology of emotions and social psychology of risky behavior. At the end of the course students are able to apply theories of social psychology on everyday life experiences.
Syllabus
  • The course consists of 6 separate themes; each theme consists of a lecture and a seminar.
  • 1. Média a jejich vliv, náchylnost k mediálním účinkům
  • 2. Mezilidská komunikace a vztahy mezi lidmi aneb kdo, co, kde, proč a jak
  • 3. Prosociální chování u dobrovolníků, v organizacích a v běžném životě
  • 4. Komunikační dovednosti při pomáhání druhým (dovednosti v profesionálním prosociálním chování)
  • 5. impression management (řízení dojmu) a sebeprezentace
  • 6. Sexuální chování v perspektivě sociální psychologie

Teaching methods
The course consists of biweekly thematic modules that typically include textbook and other readings, lectures, seminars and graded activities. Students are obliged read the assigned chapters in the course textbook and use the IS e-learning system to read the supplemental literature, which is available electronically in PDF and/or Word format.

Class resources are available to students through Masaryk University’s online Information System (IS). Under the course title “PSY109: Applied social psychology” students will find all important information including syllabus, literature for reading, tasks descriptions and multimedia materials.
Assessment methods
Each week’s study will typically involve required readings, viewing of lecture materials and working on graded activities.
Students will receive a final letter grade (A-F) for the semester based on the following components:
45% – Graded activities
65% – Final exam
