Course objectives
The main aim of the course is to give students informations and possible interpretations of the evolution of Czech environmental movement and to present them strong and weak sides of it. Every participant of the course should be able to analyze evolution and recent state of five most important czech environmental organzations and to interpret their history.
Syllabus
  • I. Used terms and posible interpretations.
  • II. History of czech environmnetal movement - until 1989.
  • III. History of czech environmnetal movement - until 1999.
  • IV. History of czech environmnetal movement - until recent times.
  • V. Comparison of the evolution of czech environmental movement and movement in the western countries.
  • VI. Case study - Hnutí Duha.
  • VII. Case study - Nesehnutí.
  • VIII. Case study - Děti Země, Arnika.
  • IX. Case study - Greenpeace.
  • X. Case study - zoocentrism.
  • XI. What is and what is not main stream of environmentalism?
  • XII. Protheans.
Teaching methods
Lectures, class discussion, homework readings, case studies. Position papers.
Assessment methods
Written tests with multiple choice and open questions. 1 x position paper.
